The Dan K. Utley Award for Public Service
The Alliance for Texas History is pleased to announce the establishment of the Dan K. Utley Award for Public Service. The Utley Award is the Alliance for Texas History's highest honor. It honors Dan K. Utley, whose service to history and others exemplifies the values that characterized his life and career: integrity, generosity, curiosity, commitment to truth, care for others, and a belief in the enduring public value of history.

The award recognizes not simply professional achievement, but a sustained record of service, character, and positive influence on the people and communities engaged in preserving, understanding, teaching, and sharing history.
The award includes a $1,000 honorarium to the recipient. The History Department at Texas State University, where Dan taught public history courses, is sponsoring the award in its initial year.
